The potency and purity of Organic Pagoda’s herbs are verified by modern technology. The most advanced technology available to test herbs includes HerboChip and Genechip technological systems. These systems verify every ingredient of each formula as well as the presence of the active ingredients for medicinal use of each individual herb.

Herbochip

Verifies Quality of Ingredients

The risk of side effects from Chinese herbs is diminished with the elimination of pesticides and preservatives. Our manufacture uses the modern technology of HerboChip, from Advanced Gene Technology Corp (AGTC), in Taiwan. According to AGTC,

"The ingredients of an herb may vary in their compound species and/or the relative amount thereof, depending upon the genetic information of the individuals of the herb and the natural conditions when the herb grows, such as the geographic region for cultivation, soil composition, water quality, weather conditions including temperature and humidity, sunshine intensity, and growth period. The effect of herbs for medical application to humans is dependent upon the presence of several active compounds and their relative amount contained in the herbs. The higher amount of the active compounds is present in an individual herb, the higher therapeutic effect may be achieved. Previously, there was no scientific guideline to detect the presence of desired active ingredients in an herb and their relative amount, even when the herb had already been known to have a specific therapeutic function. The quality of an herb individual having been known to have a therapeutic effect on humans is conventionally judged based on just the skilled people's experience in, such as, observing the herbal body shape, color and tissue's texture, smelling its flavor and/or tasting tissue's fluid."HerboChip technology analyzes each individual ingredient in our herbal formulas and verifies each herb’s potency by analyzing the presence and percentages of active ingredients in each herb. This technology is new but well respected in the herb industry.

Genochip

Verifies Ingredients and Active Constituents 

Authentication of Chinese herbs is important for ensuring safe and appropriate uses and ensuring the therapeutic effectiveness. DNA methods are reliable approaches towards authentication of Chinese herbs. They are used in identification of herbs in any physical form and provide consistent results irrespective of age, tissue origin, physiological conditions, environmental factors, harvest, storage and processing methods of the samples. The low requirement of sample quantity for analysis is of particular importance for detecting contaminants.

Organic Pagoda’s herbs are verified using Genechip technology, a DNA method of analysis. Analyses are provided with each batch of herbs documenting the genetic makeup of each ingredient.

Sterilization

According to US FDA regulations, facilities must sterilize food products, there are currently 5 methods:

• Chemical (pollutes the herbs)
• Radiation (causes radiation residue)
• Sulfur bleach (contains harmful sulfur)
• Ultraviolet (causes cell mutation)
• HIB (Heavy ion Beam) causes no pollution to herbs, no radiation, no sulfur, and no cell mutation

Organic Pagoda herbs are sterilized with our HIB only.  We believe radiating or using sulfur and other chemicals causes damage to herbs and changes their effectiveness.  We also refuse to allow potential allergens like sulfur into our formulas.
